Shean Lodge Fishery - About Us

The abundance of quality fishing combined with the truly breathtaking setting of Ballycroy National Park, the close management of the fish stocks and the local expertise of the Guides, make Shean Lodge Fishery a spectacular fishing destination, which we look forward to sharing with the angling community for many years to come.

Shean Lodge Fishery has been owned by our family since the 1940s and is still used today by many members of that family. The lodge, two beats on the Owenduff River and three stocked brown trout lakes are available to avid anglers during the fishing season. The lodge itself is also available for anyone who wants to get away from it all at any other time of year.

Thanks to its National Park status and the high level of care given to the immediate area, catch records have remained consistent over the years, a fact confirmed by our own records that date back to the start of our ownership and to the 1930s. This is in contrast to many other areas that are experiencing a marked and worrying reduction in salmon and other fish stocks.

The fishing is closely controlled and, although bag limits exist during the season, we actively encourage all anglers to return as many fish as possible in order to safeguard the welfare of fish stocks for years to come. Our local Guides are an invaluable source of information on where to find the best fish and because the river comprises of over forty pools of varying depths, you will be glad of their assistance and vast expertise. Guides are always on-hand to impart their local knowledge and to advise on the best locations based on weather conditions and seasonality. A Guide is provided as part of the rental fee of the Lodge and Beat One, while for those renting Beat Two a Guide is available on request by prior arrangement.

If you are interested in booking an Irish fishing holiday, then please look at the information we have included for you in our web site and contact us to make a booking or ask any questions. Please bear in mind that as there is limited availability in an already short season, we would strongly suggest making bookings well in advance of your desired dates to avoid disappointment.

As a long established, family business we are strongly committed to the preservation of the local environment and its fish stocks as well as providing you with comfortable accommodation and a first-rate fishing experience.

We look forward to hosting your next fishing trip and we would be pleased to welcome you back as a regular visitor to Shean Lodge.
