This page provides all the key information regarding the fishery itself and the guidelines for fishing it as follows:

Its size (and the adjoining beat) makes it ideal for larger parties looking for a group fishing holiday. A number of major improvements have taken place in the lodge over the last couple of winters. These include a new roof, new septic system, perimiter drainage, upgrade of bathrooms, showers and toilets, upgrade of lighting and electricial sockets in bedrooms. New bed linen. Replacement cutlery and crockery, improved laundry facilities and many more smaller items. Further work is planned over the next couple of years including an upgrade to the kitchen and Pantry areas.

The River The stretch of the Owenduff river owned by the fishery is a total of 8kms in length. It is fed by the Nephin mountains and flows to The Atlantic Ocean. It is a spate river, which means that the water levels rise and fall before and after seasonal rains. The stretch of river comprises over 40 pools of varying depths, lenghts and sizes, which become temporary lies for the fish as they make their way up-river to the spawning pools. The "water" is ever changing depending on rainfall, sun, cloud, wind etc etc. This makes fishing the Owenduff an ever changing challenge and is why many visitors have returned year after year.
The 8km stretch is split into 2 Beats each for rental on a weekly basis as follows:
Beat 1 - The upper beat of the fishery is provided as part of a package in combination with the rental of the self catering Lodge. It is 4kms long and exclusively allows a total of up to 8 rods at any one time over both banks. Access to the river is only 50mts from the lodge and an experienced Gillie is available as required. With Beat 1 there is also private access to a stocked Trout lake within a short walking distance and 2 rods are available on Carrowmore lake near Bangor Erris (boat fishing)
Beat 2 - The lower beat is available for rental without accommodation (which can be provided from a number of B&Bs, Pubs or Hotels in the area - See below). This beat is accessible by car at the first pool at "Cleary's bridge". Also totalling 4kms, it allows totally private Angling for up to 4 rods at any given time over both banks. A Gillie may be booked separately for Beat 2 by contacting the Lodge.
The Lake The rental of the Lodge (Beat 1) also provides free access to the nearby privately stocked Trout lake, which hold's Brown Trout up to 4lbs weight, this is perfect for those fishing the river in rotation, or where a different angling experience is desired.
Gillies Gillies are always on-hand to impart their local knowledge and advise on the best locations based on weather conditions and seasonality. A Gillie is provided as part of the rental fee of the Lodge, while for those renting Beat 2, a Gillie is available on request by prior arrangement with the Lodge.

Shean Lodge Fishery have catch records dating back to the 1930s and these show that over the years the area has enjoyed stable catch volumes. On any given day with favourable weather and water conditions the fishing can be spectacular. Salmon generally average 9lbs. weight with notable exceptions of up to 18lbs.
